New Astro Boy Series will be Broadcasted in Nigeria for March Debut

An international production will broadcast a new Astro Boy series in Nigeria preparing to make its March debut.  Astro Boy was a manga series written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka from 1952-1968.  The original series focuses on the adventures of a robot fighting crime and injustice.

The new thirty minute series will focus more on an innocent child that makes mistakes from time to time.  It will be called Robot Atom and it is a joint production between Tezuka Productions and a local Nigerian TV station.  Two episodes will air in March and at least eight episodes will be greenlit.  The joint venture began after the Nigerian TV station  approached Tezuka Productions to obtain the skills in producing animation locally.

Under the agreement that was reached with Tezuka Productions, three interns from Nigeria came to Japan last November to learn the art of drawing and anime production.  Tezuka Productions will also create joint-production plans to expand sales in other countries besides Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country and oil producing nation with 170 million people.  Share your comments.  For more information about the new series, click on the links below:
